West Midlands Travel

West Midlands Travel Ltd was a company that was formed as a result of the deregulation of the bus industry in 1986. It was taken over by National Express in 1995 and re-branded as Travel West Midlands shortly after.

It is the largest bus operator in the West Midlands and most buses in the city of Birmingham will be operated by National Express. The company has been criticised widely for providing poor value for money and shoddy services. Many people ceased to use the bus service as a result of anti-social behavious and the failure of West Midlands Police or the bus company to prevent crime and disorder on its fleet has inevitably had an impact on its passenger numbers.

However, in its defence, the company has now fitted cameras and monitors to many of its buses and all indications are that the number of crime and anti-social behaviour issues are decreasing.
